Test Drive: 2010 Land Rover LR2
« on: September 08, 2010, 04:03:27 am »

It may be the smallest Land Rover, but the LR2 is worthy of the name, says Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh; despite its price and reputation for reliability, she's come to appreciate its combination of off-road ability and "seriously luxurious" touches.

For what its worth this is the only vehicle that I have seen go over the recently installed speed humps outside my residence at over the speed limit and without any drama, very impressive.

Most drivers have to brake heavily even at 50 km p h and even then some still scrape front and sometimes rear body parts, i.e spoilers.

Many drivers avoid the street altogether.

The Expedition is the only other vehicle that handles the humps well and 3/4 ton pickups would be a step or two behind. My Miata has no problem, I never brake for them but don't speed either.

I've always really liked the exterior styling of the LR2, but have also always felt there were many, many other choices that posed a better value in this segment (BMW X3, Tiguan).

I have to agree.  Not a bad vehicle but given it's weaknesses it is something of an "also ran" in it's segment.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

In typical LR fashion, I imagine it will be a fantastic used buy.

The "brick" key that has to be inserted into a slot, then pressing the start button sequence, as well as the motor that gives you your key back is a Volvo feature. I don't know how the Land Rover one looks like, but the Volvo one is fairly simple, but completely unnecessary - as the writer wrote, a two step procedure.

Given that Volvo and Land Rover were related, I would not be surprised if they are similar.

It makes sense for keyless-drive, but otherwise not.

Especially if you are a mechanic who has a relative that can get LR parts at wholesale...

So does our Mini. You have to stick a fob in a slot in the dash and then push a button.....seems a little silly
