An excellent roundup Paul.

I find very few people who know who makes what and where its made.

North American built foreign makes and models are the vehicles most often mixed up.

People love to take in car shows despite their origin.

Nice photo. Yours? I like the old Civics in the foreground. My dad had a blue '78 hatch that I wish he'd kept long enough so that I could've had it when I got my license.
I used to work here.

Nissan-Renault is a major alliance, although we don’t see Renault-branded cars in North America. Germany’s Daimler recently took an ownership role in Nissan-Renault, with a one-time cross-shareholding amounting to 3.1 per cent of each company’s share capital.

Citroen- Peugeot  ?

PSA Peugeot Citroën. They are independant with Peugeot buying Citroën in the 70's???

There is also the South Korean Daewoo. Bankrupt and now owned by GM, 'GM DAT', or GM Daewoo is a significant part of GM's small car strategy. We see these cars in Canada as the Chevy Aveo/Suzuki Swift+ (not to be confused with the Suzuki Swift that the rest of the world gets), Chevy Optra and Saturn VUE among others.

Renault also owns Romania's Dacia and South Korea's Samsung Motors (who make Renault's crossover, the Koleos).

Mitsubishi also builds the Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser car-based SUVs (re-badged Outlander) for PSA.
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

Did not most of them rust out in 3 years  ;D

My 1975 Civic lasted until 1986, it was 5 years old when I bought it with no rust.  Lots of rust when I got rid of it and a not so good engine.  Not sure what the mileage was since the odometer broke at around 75000.

Watch out for the Chinese buying more brands with the pot of $US they have collected.  Much better for them to buy an established manufacturer than try to develop their own cars from scratch, which by all estimates are far below Hyundai quality (when they entered the NA market 20 or so years ago).

Isnt Volvo sold/ being sold to Geely?  Geely are a different chinese entity to SAIC, who ended up indirectly holding MG after merging with over another chinese company Nanjing, which "won" MG in the end.

Mitsubishi also builds the Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser car-based SUVs (re-badged Outlander) for PSA.

No onwership involved here though... but a manufacturing partnership. PSA had the intent to tight the knot with Mitsu few months back but the deal fell apart.

Mitsu uses the PSA 2.2L diesel in the Euro Outlander (in 2007 they used VW but then switched to PSA). Mitsu will also provide PSA with their own iMIEV version soon.
Not sure what Mitsu is getting from PSA but maybe a B-segment car (new Colt).

An obvious omission is Scion, built by Toyota, who will be entering the Canadian market very soon.
