There is, perhaps, something to be said for Mr. Meyers POV:

If you can afford this vehicle to begin with, why not pony up the extra and opt for the hybrid version?

I'm not too concerned with the environmental impact of the 750 - all the BMW 750s in the world probably contribute only a tiny fraction to the threat of climate change - but there is something to be said for making a statement and setting an example.

*shrug*

If anyone wants to front me $150k for a hybrid, xDrive, LWB BMW, I'm good for it, I swear!

I agree that the real problem is not luxury sedans in terms of fuel consumption and excess use of resources.  It's the fleets of commuters in SUVs and pick-ups that are also using 17L/100km, or more.

I think we need mandated fuel economy standards that are very high and guzzler taxes that are pretty much obscene.  In the flagship luxury class and high end sport cars, adding $10K or more in fuel consumption taxes would be a small part of the price.  If you were buying a $35,000 high consumption SUV and you faced a $10K guzzler penalty, well, that's another matter.

I tell you that F150's would suddenly be available with some better options in terms of economical drivelines and smaller pick ups would make a come-back.

on topic...

In this price class, I like the BMW, but in all honesty, they're all too big.  The E, 5, etc. are the "right" size for a big luxury car to me.

Excellent question, and the concern that is really in the heart of most of the members round these parts! :D

That depends if you're buying it to drive, or buying it to be driven in. If you're obscenely wealthy and are planning on having it chauffeured, then the extra leg room (especially in the long wheel base version) would not go amiss. :D

I don't care about the mileage this car gets, because I consider western society's eco-fetish to be a political fraud believed in only by social followers and saps. I also don't care what other people drive; if someone can afford this car, and wants one, they should buy one.

That said, it's a bloated whale of an execucruiser, and distinctly un-nifty.
