My Supra was stupidly fast for a car...but a complete slug compared to a liter bike, let alone an open classer like a Busa...

Someone I knew had bought himself a Nissan 300 ZX Turbo...and he thought it was fast.

For a car, it may have been, and he thought it was the cat's meow thinking he could outrun bikes. So he tried running against my Suzuki RG 500 Gamma (same vintage as his car) and he couldn't believe a mere 500 cc motorcycle would not just walk away, but leave him in the dust. Can't say I didn't warn him. His ego was seriously bruised.

What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!
A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!
A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

I also like the styling, think it is interestingly BMW like. As for pricing, the VFR has always been a bit of a technology showcase for Honda, chocolate camshafts and all.

Having owned two VFR800's this is an exciting update to a popular but dated bike.  I wouldn't buy a third one as I got to the point where I found this bike too cramped for any full day touring and my next bike will be a sport tourer like an ST or FJR.  I sold my last one when they introduced the street racing laws as it was seriously impossible for me to go for a ride an not find some great stretch of country road where I would open it up and end up doing more than double the speed limit.  :popo:

Something finally made me realize this activity will not lead to a long life span.  :o

"and I miss the insane power some of my previous bikes have provided."

Well I don't. My previous bike, a FJR1300 had insane power. I much prefer the lightness and handling of my current Aprilia Shiver 750 with it's "modest" 95 HP.

my $.02

It's a good thing there's more than one bike on the market then ;) In this case, Honda's got the NT700 for the people who think the new VFR is overkill.  The NT700 (is it really not offered in Canada?  That doesn't seem right) is a 700cc V-Twin sport-tourer:

EDIT: and seeing as you like "BMW-ish" looking bikes, it's worth pointing out that BMW's own F800S and F800ST will probably be significantly cheaper than the new VFR ;)  I'd contend though, that in order for this bike to look BMW-ish, it would have to look much more like a winking platypus than it does.

Honda does have the Varadero though.  Not really a sport tourer but more dual purpose (BMW GSA)

In regards to comparing the VFR to BMW's 800St, I think the VFR is aimed at the BMW K1300S

Why do motorcycles need such huge engines?

Because industry has conditioned us to demand that bigger is always better.  That being said, I do love the 1832cc boxer flat six in my 2001 Honda Gold Wing.  It is supposed to take the bike up to 60 mph in under 4 seconds, though I have yet to prove that! :o
And as for the price, which was even more than my Fit, hell, you only live once.
Honda is also very comparable in price with it's Wing, when looking at the BMW K1200LT and Harley's top tourers.  Nobody else has a tourer that comes close.
And as mentioned, Honda quality, reliablility and their great shaft drive is all hard to beat.
And it will go 400 km on 20 of it's 25 litres of gas.

As for the new VFR, if my wife didn't love to ride as much as me, it would be high on my list of a sport tourer, but replacing the Wing would be a tough one.

You don't want to know what my butt felt like while heading to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the annual EAA convention...on a stock Yamaha XT 350 (dual purpose bike).

Its amazing how many different ways one can sit on a seat...neither way being more comfortable than the other.

Its the only time a small gas tank came in handy. I got to stop often to fill up and give my butt a break.
