I bought a bottle of the Macallan Elegancia 12 YO last night on my way through duty free.  I did some googling when I got home and discovered that it is different from the 12 YO sold in the LCBO and is only available from Duty Free stores.

Internet ramblings indicated it may be a little sharper than the standard 12 YO, but to my palette it still delicious.

I tried to buy that Macallan 1 ltr for $50 on both the outbound and inbound flights. They were sold out of it. :P ::) :banghead:
I even had a $10 Air Canada Duty-free coupon I was going to use. $40 would have been a steal.

I'll try and remember to look out for it on the way back from Bangkok. Better not taste like gnat's :censor:  :-X   ;)

Anyone tried the 'sherry type' (original Macallan, Elegancia) vs the 'fine oak type'?

Fine oak has a less strong sherry tint to it, it's very nice, but I prefer the full monty.

I picked up a bottle of Macallan Fine oak 21 y/o for $188 on clearance, down from $244... Not big into scotch, but I figured it would make a decent Christmas present. I had a sample of Hyland Park, which wasn't too bad.

HYLAND.!!!!......ya bluddy Sassenach............................I

I actually had to look that one up!

Sassenach is a word used chiefly by the Scots to designate an Englishman. It derives from the Gaelic Sasunnach meaning, originally, "Saxon", from the Latin "Saxones"; it was also formerly applied by Highlanders to (non-Gaelic-speaking) Lowlanders[1]. The modern Scottish spelling is Sasannach. As employed by Scots or Scottish English-speakers today it is usually used in jest, as a (friendly) term of abuse. The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) gives 1771 as the date of the earliest written use of the word in English.

Sasanach, the Irish-language word for an Englishman, has the same derivation, as do the words used in Welsh to describe the English people (Saeson, sing. Sais) and the language and things English in general: Saesneg and Seisnig. These words are normally, however, used only in the Irish and Welsh languages themselves.

Cornish also terms English Sawsnek from the same derivation. Some Cornish were known to use the expression 'Meea navidna cowza sawzneck!' to feign ignorance of the English language.[2]
