Things are getting tough in the UK even for wealthy people as some have had to look at ways of boosting their income to maintain their lifestyle.

In all seriousness, if Canadians think we're going to skate past all this just because our banks haven't collapsed, think again.  The largest economies on the planet are all crashing and burning.  With the demand for natural resources falling, that puts Canada in the bulls eye for our own recession.  so much of our exports are raw materials.  Even if we were still manufacturing large quantities of finished goods, with consumer demand falling off in the US (and most other places) we'd still be screwed.

There is some good news though.

Dollar is low which means tech companies that have invested in Canada are doing slightly better with us Canadian employees which means less on the chopping block.  But we still need US investments in infrastructure.

The $0.80 CDN dollar is also keeping the mining operations that had low operating costs and utilized realistic metal prices in their long range planning profitable. There also has been a reasonable draw down on inventories that indicates there is economic activity out there albeit at a reduced rate compared to the insanity in the past 4 years.
