Petrol usage savings calculator

Not sure if it has been posted. Lately lots of knee-jerk reaction with the price of petrol. Alot of people even start to trade-in their current petrolholic-cars for more fuel efficient ones thinking of saving cost.
Here's a calculator to help you justify any savings for doing so.

Just for fun, I plugged my RX-8 for a 1-yr old MX-5. With my parameters, it will take me ~375 mths to break-even.  ::)

I always wanted a Jeep.   So replacing my Civic with a new Jeep Patriot gets me:

You will not save any money by trading in your current vehicle for the fuel-efficient vehicle you have selected.

I got the same thing at first for this: 2009 Forester AT for 2002 Pathfinder AT.  Forget to put in miles driven per month (2,000 miles/month and $5.25 per gallon)   :-[  :bang:

Now I get this:

Amount Saved on Gas (per month):    $243.48
Number of months to breakeven and begin saving money on gas:    68

Wonder if my accountant will believe this?

I pick a Toyota Tacoma, could not pick a Tundra
Trading in my GMC I would save $80 a month @ 2400 miles/ month and would need 194 months to break even :o

So don't worry, just be happy that we don't have line ups. :)

Filled at 1.489 for premium today, broke the $75 mark.

 >:( We're paying $1.529 for regular...  :(

Based on my parameters, including rough guesses of my own mileage since I can't be bothered to figure it out, I would save $21.21 a month and only need 613 months to break even...   :rofl2:

You did what I did, forgot to put in the miles driven in a month.

Your scenario would actually be, based on 2,000 miles per month:

Amount Saved on Gas (per month):    $212.50
Number of months to breakeven and begin saving money on gas:    128

T'were I to trade in the Tribute for an 2008 Civic DX 2dr Coupe (1.8L 4cyl 5M) it calculates 82 months @ 1000 Km/month & $1.50/L. Buy. Hold. And prosper.  :P

Based on 500miles per month if I would have bought my Mazda3 instead of the Titan it seems I would have saved about $34 a month in fuel...
