Our taxes in G are $4000  75ft frontage, corner lot and as we only bought in 2007 an uptodate assessment.  For which we get a council that has an IQ greater than the average for municipal councils, good services and so on.   They are thinking of an increase of 6.5% next year to do things like:
build a skating rink
double the frequency of city buses
keep the municipal services at least as good as they are now.
and other plans such as a new public library .

6.5% of $4000   looks like  $5 a week    I would gladly pay $10 or $15 more a week to have a well run city  and the council that actually thinks is a fabulous bonus compared to TO for example.
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

How is your house, Kelli?  Any hidden problems (I hope not)?

The house is great! I haven't had any issues since the "flood" issue in the spring, but that was due to a shoddy sump pump.. it's been perfect ever since.

The backyard is huge and a pain to mow, but other than that, it's great.

I demo'd the bathroom and redid the entire thing from the drywall out.. i think i've put enough equity into it now, that i wouldn't be able to afford to buy it if it were for sale =)

Lower mortgage payment, off set with higher tax payment. That is a rather high percentage rate of property tax.

Didn't you get a sheep or two?   Aren't "farms" taxed at a lower mill rate?

The Fredericton rate is currently $1.41 per $100 of assessment, or $2820 on a $200,000 house. We don't have separate school taxes or extra service fees other than water and sewage, which is about $300/year.

Glad the house is working out kelli. BTW this is our Tucker.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Our taxes are $6500 on a value of about 700k here in Kitchener.

I built all the homes in this area and my house and lot cost 230k fifteen years ago.  Values have been really increasing fast the last couple of years, and particularly my neighbourhood which is a woody hilly area.

I expect the taxes to jump quite a bit when they do the next assessment.

Vancouver has low property tax. Mine just came in with $2600 after home owner's grant.  ;D Who says housing isn't affordable here?  ::)
