2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 - Short Take Road Test

We finally slap our test gear onto the potent Challenger SRT8 to see if it’s actually up to the challenge.

Very Nice.  :-*

Even from the back it looks great. :P

Prefer the Mustangs interior. :-\

"We made some short-wheelbase mules from Chargers," he says. "We essentially chopped ’em in half, made custom short doors, shortened the body, painted the Brembo calipers black, and we’ve been driving ’em around for almost a year and a half.

I love the exterior design, but I can't get over the two things: (a) it's just a coupe version of the Charger, which is a good car but a bit long in the tooth now, and (b) it's what, 500 lbs heavier than a Mustang GT?

They don't seem to have the No's correct on the 440 engines of the day in the article at all. They were faster then qouted in the 1967 Version as the very 1st RT 440 in Canada was a London Car which ran for MCManus Motors. This car ran 1/1000th of a sec off the world record at that time but had a carb problem which we never could fix. It was called Mr. Beware and was at least 2-2.5 secs faster then what they qoute for the 70;s even. We had a Lawraunce Tranny in it from Toronto back then but got only around a year out of it before it pooched completely.  My wife and I were luckey enough to use this car when we got married and the driver pulled the front wheels in front of the church. He had pulled the cut-offs open and had NO legal plates on the car at all. The paint job did look really nice tho as we left around 400 feet of rubber in front of the Church. Crinkle slicks always look real nice when they are folding up . That was the 1st week of Dec in 1967 and was a blast. The weather was still really nice out and the car was taken off of its trailor for the night.  :) ;D

Great looking car! I can't think of a better looking car I have seen in years.
Way better looking than the G8!
I guess GM makes Malibus, Impalas and G8s for some, and Chrysler makes Chargers and Challengers for me.
I don't even look twice at the GMs (just another taxi), but the Challenger looks like a full sized HotWheels!
Truely a great looking Canadian built car!

G8 competes with Charger.  :)  I too would take a G8 over a Charger, but would choose the Challenger over the Mustang or Camaro.  Gorgeous...

I agree with the G8 choice, however I would really like to get rid of those hood scoops and make it more 'plain jane' so to speak. Staying under the radar would be good with that car.

As to the coupies - Challenger for me - in convertible form like the one in C&D this month. Yummy. ::)

A dark color does part of the work for you.
