Seriously though I am surprised they can get such mileage on standard acid batteries. It could be a new gen of brushless motors. I suspect if they throw in a prius battery it'll go well over a 100 miles, which makes for a serious contender for a future car. Cant wait when they start to mass produce printed solar panels. If the price is what they promise, for a buck a watt the whole car can be wallpapered so if kept outside it may never need charging..  ;D ..If only all the money spent on wars could be channeled in research.. but thats another topic.

An update I just found on digg. Its related to the printed solar panels I mentioned above. It turns out the manufacturing cost is a mere 30 cents per watt! The article also mentions efficiency and materials used. The first commercial order has been shipped to eastern Germany.

When the headline is "new model will include heater", I worry...  that's about half a step up from "new model will include brakes and engine!"  :D

Heater is a luxury item.   :)   Besides it doesn't get that cold in the southern parts of China.

It'll be a challenge to have heaters in electric cars as they reduce the mileage. In gasoline engines heat is obviously a byproduct whereas in electrics it drains the battery to get warm. Who knows, maybe they will use propane  :o heater eventually, e.g. powered by cow farts to be eco friendly, or to be safe smth with a chemical reaction being the source. At any rate given all the resistance from the Big Oil I am genuinely surprised to come across a Smart clone in NA that is built on existing tech  and manages to sell nonetheless.  :)

It doesn't get cold in southern China. No, but it does get hot.  :o  And the air conditioning solution is? ::) ???

I believe in the early '60's heater were an option in pick up trucks in NA

But atleast it was made and on the market in the US
