Buying a used vehicle from a private seller? Payment option?
« on: October 18, 2007, 02:12:33 pm »
First time posting a topic here, be nice to me  ;)

I have been doing a lot of research on getting new/used car from down south, either newyork state or michigan states. now, i always find better deal from car forum from people selling them privately.

now my question is, how do i securely pay that individual beside paypal  ;D
and do i still need that "no recall" letter if i am buying a second hand car? is a private seller able to get that?

Thanks

Depends what you mean by "securely pay" If it was me I'd exchange a US dollar bank cheque for the signed over title at time of purchase.

Yes you need a recall letter. It comes from the US head office of the manufacturer as I understand it. You'll need to give them the VIN.

Get a certified cheque or money order.
