How can Ford make them so cheap?

Yup, volume.  Mazda and Ford combined production and older technology means low costs.  Instead of the "usual" model of pricing it really high and trying to make buckets, they just sell them by gazillions.

Fleet sales probably make up a good portion of that volume.

i got my new ranger sport with 2wd 4.0l  automatic and air for $24980 canadian with tax. Thats around 415 a month for 60 months. now that isnt bad at all for a new reliable truck. the part that pisses me off is that my insurance is around 390 a month just because i got a minor speeding ticket 2 and a half years ago. Its almost like i am paying for two trucks just because of my age (20)
It now has just over 2000km or 1234mi on it, and on the last tank i got 19.48miles to the gallon with mixed city highway driving.

It's too bad Ford Canada doesn't offer the 4.0L V6 in the 2WD version. That seems to be the only decent engine that I drove.
