First Drive:
2007 Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart

2007 Ford EdgeReplacing the old GTS model at the top of the Galant trim tree, the $34,998 Galant Ralliart offers "a lot of visual punch," says Laurance Yap.  Horsepower has been bumped from 230 to 258, and the Galant Ralliart offers a sportier interior and suspension, he says. It's a "sweet package" but demerits include "a festival of torque steer" and "large turning circle and big blind spots," he reports.     More...

Looks nice, but torque steer and lack of any sort of manual tranny (even tiptronic) is a major turn off.  For similar money, the Mazdaspeed6 is a lot more promising.

The upcoming Evo, on the other hand...

I think Mitsu either needs to drop the Galant or totally revamp it to make it competitive. There are countless other sedans that offer more for the money IMO. That's a tough category to play in with the high end family sedans and the entry luxury brands. Paying $35K mostly for visual cosmetics and a bump in HP, torque steer, blind spots etc doesn't really cut it. At least they got rid of that ugly steering wheel and replaced it with...an ugly steering wheel  :P. Albeit, not AS ugly admittedly.

Saw 2 of these on the road and they look pretty sporty. But would be far down on my list for purchasing a large-ish mid-sized sedan, even tho it offers a lot of car for the price. Oh, and that coloured Ralliart logo looks non-descript and pathetic.

Impreza will have lots more company by the sounds of it:

"in the next 24 months, we'll see the introduction of the new Evolution at the head of a Lancer line-up that will span a price range from $15,000 to $50,000 - and will include performance-oriented versions offering all-wheel-drive and Brembo brakes well under the price of a top-of-the-line Evo"

 :iagree:

And the Galant, in all its versions, doesn't offer rear folding seat.   There's no excuse for that in 2006.   Anyway, the regular Galant does not sell so for the Ralliart it will make a good collection car.  ;D

Big arsed fwd sedans with huge V6 power don't make much sense to me. Torque steer would only be fun in a small hooligon style little car. This car looks like the worst of the lot with no real redeeming features except a motor too powerful for the chassis (again that is fun in small tossable cars or muscle cars but not big arsed, bland sedans).
