Civic Hybrid?

Yup, the new one's got a CVT, too.
I used to work here.

From the Dodge.ca website:

Dodge Caliber is also Chrysler Group’s first compact car
to offer all-wheel-drive capability and electronic ESP with traction control (not available in Canada).
---- not availabe in Canada!  ???

The Dodge Caliber R/T with all-wheel drive features a standard 172-horsepower 2.4-litre World
Engine with dual VVT coupled with CVT2, anti-lock brakes, AutoStick, a sport-suspension,
performance steering and 18-inch aluminum wheels.
--- AWD only with CVT!!!!  >:( >:(

I drove the caliber this weekend and have to say I didn't get much seat time, but I felt the AWD system was as good if not better than the Subaru system on ice and snow.  Although it was a tad tailhappy it was really easy to control and had excellent grip.   The 172hp engine was more than enough to get it going as well.

Was the AWD you drove manual or CVT?

Yes it is automatic (unfortunately), the CVT program feels like a standard automatic as it does have shift points to mimic an automatic.

James, about the Caliber we drove Saturday, I have to wonder if the CVT has different modes, as in one to mimic an automatic, and one that lets the transmission work in true variable mode.

Yeah, not sure, didn't really get much time to play with it, and ummm it was missing the piece around the shifter ;)  I'm sure we could ask Rob D.

I'm a proud owner of one of these new Cailbers. I adore it so far, but I'm not a car expert. All I know is that the price is right, it looks good, and it uses a lot less gas than my previous car!

Hope it works out for you and that it proves to be a good car. I like the looks of it.

Welcome to the board and if you have some pix - post 'em. We would love to see them.

Well, I would like to re-iterate that I haven't driven it but was told the CVT takes awhile to get used to, as it doesn't act like a traditional auto.
And as mentioned before, the interior fit and finish leaves alot to be said, geese, ya got to wonder if the rest of the car beneath is put together the same way as the interior!!
That said, remember people, its still a dodge. Remember the K-car, neon, and disposable caravans??
That said, this seems to be a catchy short-term car, with a catchy price (like the others I mentioned). I wouldn't keep it like my beamer, 14 years and running like day 1.
