Mazda 5 Winter Rims.
« on: October 03, 2005, 04:58:50 pm »
Does any know if the Winter Rims (16") for the  Mazda 5 is the same for the Mazda 3 or the Mazda 6.  I don't want to look for them when inventories are gone in the middle of winter and because of the recall I don't have my vehicle.

Thanks

Just ordered my rims (genuine) today at the Mazda dealer.

60 CDN$ each. It's 205-55-16 for the tires and the dealer said that is the same rims as the Mazda 3.

Shopped at 2 tires dealers before and universal rims were in the range of 60-62 $CDN.

We are doing a test fit to be sure....will let you know the results. Hard to get a hold of the Mazda5. Seems to be a hot item and they dont last on the lots long.

Thanks for the reply Gentlemen.  This message is for yabo.  Which dealership did you pick the rims from.  I am in the GTA and I randomly called Markham Mazda and they quoted me $110 a piece.

Thanks

Duval Mazda near Montreal.

I though Mazda dealers were expensive but it seems not the case for rims. Tires prices were competitives too.

Thanks

Hi Maarp

The problem with Canadian Tire Rims is that they are not hub centric.

Thanks

A good shop will ensure your rim is hubcentric...... so I have been told

Yes you can buy hub-rings for the non-hubcentric rims...it helps center the rim while you are torquing down the lugnuts.

Now, there have been many many arguments as to whether hubcentricity is really all that vital. Some argue that the hub does not really "carry" the load and it is the lugnut/bolts' job. So, as long as you torque down the lugnuts properly (say slowly in a star pattern for the 5-lug hubs), you would be okay.

Mazda3 is the same as the Mazda5. They are both built on the same paltform and so wheels are interchangeable.

As for hub-centric...you are not able to use hub-rings in steels wheels to make them hub-centric. This is something that is only done with alloy wheels. Problem is that the steel is too thin to accomodate the ring. You will need to buy a hub-centric steel to be hub-centric. As for alloys, it is rare these days to find a hub-centric wheel. In most cases wheels are produced to fit as many applications as possible. To then make these wheels hub-centric, a ring is inserted into the wheel to change the centre-bore to match that of the particular vehicle. This is common and safe. To many vehicles with different specs. If every wheel manufacturer made wheels hub-centric it would be an inventory nightmare....
