I did not buy a WRX to go fast in a straight line. I would have got a Mustang GT and modded it up to 400 hp if I wanted that. I am debating spending the extra $12k for an STi over the plain WRX.

I guess this is really a philosophical question... :)

Is WRX+$12K > STI?

To some, it is...to others perhaps never.

Personally, I would be happy with a WRX with uppipe, downpipe and ECU.

IF the STi were available back in 2002 I may have struggled with the issue. I would like to be in that position in the fall of 2006 when the new Impreza platform comes…hopefully.

I know what you mean...I would be in a quandary too if the STI was available when I got my WRX in 2001.

have you guys ever been to Australia?  Their performace car market is devoted, and manufacturers deliver.  They get sweet rides, but often pay more with taxes.  I once worked it out that an S class would cost almost 3 times as much there than here.

Most people from Oz that I talked to, there are many in the Canadian Mining Industry, buy 2 or 3 year old used cars off the boat form Japan. New cars are expensive in Oz.

Nothing has changed much althougth the Auz dollar used to be stronger; but I was in Australia for a month in late 1978 and cars were terribly expensive there then. It must be a very small market for the likes of GM of Australia, and Ford of Australia.

200kW is 268HP and 343Nm is 253lb-ft. Doesn't our STi put out more than that? ???

That thing couldn't even go up a hill on the road, let alone a sloped driveway.. ;)
