Everything is relative.  Have you looked at a Forester lately?  I mean, you may not be the best looking guy around, but I bet you look good standing next to Andy Rooney.

Made the deal.  X-Trail XE AWD auto.  $1700 below MSRP, including all admin fees (~$600 over invoice).  Grad discount on top of that.  Prepaid lease at 3.75%, with a $475 security deposit comes to $16,650.  A fair bit less than the $18,000 I was budgeting earlier.  Those numbers were from Nissan's online calculator, which clearly cannot be trusted.

Drove a Legacy and nearly fell in love with it, but it's two grand more.  Were it my car, that's what we'd have.  Instead, this is the wife's car.  She prefers the shorter, higher stance of the X-Trail.  The interior, while  full of plastic, is very functional and practical for skiers like us.  If the convertible is worth more to somebody else than it is to me (white with white leather - any pimps in da house?), I'll flip it for a manual something-or-other.

Thanks to all who offered their advice, opinions, and criticism of my math.

Way to go, cph, the X-Trail is a nice package. Love to see pix when you get time - you know the drill. Congrats.

I hear the X-Trail is eating into both RAV and Forester sales a bit this year. The MY06 RAV will have a V6 option as well as being new and a bit larger. That should help Toyota recapture some of those sales in that sector.

Cph, it looks like I was incorrect about how Nissan calculates their prepaid leases. My apologies.

Wife takes delivery Tuesday.  She's the daily driver, so she picked the colour.  Insurance for her is not as expensive as I feared, and I'd rather she be in a safer car.  Camera will be at the ready.

Sterling, sorry if I was a bit snippy.  I wish your were right, and some companies do indeed reduce the interest rate for prepaid leases, Subaru among them.

I will say this:  Now is a very good time to buy.  Nobody is in the showrooms.  Dealerships are very motivated to bargain.

I'm laughing, too.  I get a further $500 discount for the Nissan coupon from the Auto Show.  Going tomorrow.  My dealer just tried to tell me the discount is split between himself and Nissan Canada, and that he could only get me $250 of that discount.  Called Nissan Canada, and found this is not true.  The dealer is reimbursed the full $500.

Well, seems there may indeed be a dealer cost to the promotion, so $250 is about what I can expect.  Still, as you say, Barrie1, better in my pocket than theirs.

Still, I've got Nissan Finance calling the dealership, so I can let the two of them fight it out, while I stay warm and cozy over here.
