Saturn Vue

Any thoughts or experince with this?

Wife and I took one out for a test drive last night. Other then a few little things (stiff ride) we liked it. We test drove the FWD V6 version.

For those that don't know---its the Honda 3.5L/5 speed auto---and damn its fast!

With that kind of power, there is really nothing else in its class that comes close.

Any feeback on this model?

It's got a sweet Honda engine, but the rest of the package lags behind the competition.

If you want a gret balance of refinement and power, cehck out teh 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara - Decent V6 (though it's not near as fast as the Honda 3.5) and much, much better interiour and build quality.

Consumer Reports panned the Vue, but that would be the out-going model. Reliability was terrible - their lowest rating. They did say the new engine was excellent, but then you already know that. My main concern would be the reliability issue - usually when a car has been very poor in that regard for years, it doesn't suddenly dramatically improve with a new model. Most typically, with North American cars, first year reliability is WORSE than the car it replaces. Just some thoughts.

an 06. I thought about the Grand Vitara but:

weighs more then a FWD Vue
65 less hp

Likely be pretty strained in any acceleation. However, I did read that Suzuki will produce some of GMs HF DOHC V6's. If the 2.8L 210hp or 3.6 find its way in th Grand Vitara, it would be worht a look.

I would say only buy the V6 Honda engine version if you can get a good price - ie much much cheaper than a  Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, because they way way way better so you wanna keep this as long as possiable - the dealerships are nice - not like the rude toyota and honda dealerships they have the best car on the market so they are aloud I guess - these guys do everything to make you happy. I would still check out to see if I could get  Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, for around the same price first

What Edmunds.com Says
A spacious and practical compact sport-ute, the Vue has long been held back by its unimpressive fit and finish and sloppy steering. However, this year's interior revisions give its cabin considerably more appeal.

Pros
Strong V6, roomy cabin, comfortable ride, excellent crash test scores, good fuel economy.

Cons
Below-average build quality, some low-grade interior plastics, undersized front seats, vague steering.

I owned an 04 Vue & traded up to the 06. I am a travelling sales rep that puts on 60,000 km per year. Both Vue,s are perfect mechanically & had a couple of interior rattles I figured out myself. Gas mileage is amazing for this much hp. I consistently get 30 mpg hi-way at 110 kmh & 22 mpg in town. I pull my 3000 pound boat & have passed vehicles at 135 kmh with ease while towing. AWD is adequate....just enuff to pull boat up a slippery launch pad or my double sled trailer thru snow. 06 is quieter & more refined. I could not find a sport-ute with this kind of performance & mpg. at anywhere near this price point. I will look at the new rav with the 260 hp 3.5 V-6 this spring.
