Pointless...
Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Funny.  I was going to pose the same question on the same story.

If figure skating is an 'athletic" sport, then I suppose I should consider this a "motor" sport.  Considering my handle, this should appeal to me, but I'm afraid it doesn't for the same reason the "discotheque" cars that cruise the strip don't appeal to me.  It's all about "style" and nothing to do with function.  The more traditional forms of motorsport all have at some level an element of being the quickest from point A to B...the fundamental purpose of automobiles.  Ok, maybe not all.  Demolition derbies and Monster truck freestyle probably fall into the same category as drifting.  And since I have been known to occasionally take in those events for a laugh or two, I guess I will keep my mind open to drifting's entertainment possibilites.

Count me as a "no".

Sport….No. IMHO any competitive event which the outcome is determined by judging is not a sport.

I tend to agree with you guys on this one.  While I'm sure there's skill involved in this event, subjective winners are a waste of time.  I find these events to be a big waste of time and fuel.  But, it keeps the economy going and these yahoos out of the unemployment line.

The only realistic racing is on a real race track….race track….racing cars the “old fashionâ€? way.  I wish I was near a race track…..race track… Lets all sing along with the B-52’s…..Love Shack style:

Race Track

If you see a faded sign by the side of the road that says
15 miles to the...Race Track! Race Track yeah
I'm headin' down the sixty-nine highway, lookin' for the secret speedway
Heading for the secret speedway , secret speedway
I got me a car, it has big a$$ turbo and we're headin' on down
To the Race Track
I got me a Scooby, does a lap in two twenty
So hurry up and bring your entry money

The Race Track is a little old place where we can get together
Race Track baby, Race Track bay-bee.
Speed baby, that's where it's at, Ooo speed baby, that's where it's at

Sign says.. Woo... stay away fools, 'cause speed rules at the Race Track!
Well it's set way back in the middle of a field,
Just a funky old track and I gotta get back

Passing on the front stretch
looking for the apex
Drafting on the back stretch
quickly though the chicane

The Race Track is a little old place where we can get together
Race Track baby! Race Track, that's where it's at!
Slippin' and a slidin', spinin’ and a swervin’ , darin’ to pass someone
Cause it's hot as an oven
The whole car shimmies! The whole car shimmies when everybody's
Movin' around and around and around!
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin' baby!
Folks linin' up outside just to get down
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin' baby
Funky little track! Funky littletrack!

I got me a car, it has big a$$  turbo and we're not going to fail
I got me a Scooby, does a lap in two twenty
So hurry up and bring your entry money

Bang bang bang on my door baby! Knock a little louder baby!
Bang bang bang on my door baby! I won’t let you
Your what?... Big goof, dusted!

Race Track, baby Race Track!
Speed baby, that's where it's at
Slippin' and a slidin', spinin’ and a swervin’  at the Race Track

It's all about style...sort of ballet dancing with cars.

Although it does require specific (superb) car contro and driving skills and car setup, I don't consider it to be racing or motorsport in the traditional sense.
