I mostly like it from a functional point of view. I’d be driving my WRX on gravel roads and in crappy winter conditions (they don’t sand the roads here, they use rocks  :P .)

Every car I’ve owned has eventually developed rust around the wheel arches from all the crap that gets flung up. Seems to me that the factory cladding should prevent most of that.

Function over form as far as I’m concerned. At the end of the day it’s just a sporty econobox daily driver. It’s not like if Ferrari had gone and put fender flares on their new 296.  :P

Lambo did  ;)

Like I said, if some people truly find that useful, offer it as an option.

I really don't understand why Subaru insists on making every one of its models uglier than the last one but I guess they aren't the only ones.

The new Impreza looks better than the previous one, methinks. Of course, naked sheetmetal.

I would rock a Sport trim for a dd ... maybe even with a lift kit to make it more back-friendly.

It is puzzling Subaru hasn't come up with a lifted Rally version of the WRX

Haha, that's awful. I had no idea!  :rofl2:

Optional/aftermarket flares aren't the same in my experience. If anything, road grime and grit works its way behind the flares, rubs away at the paint and makes the rust problem even worse.

That's the lifted, "off road" Huracan Sterrato.

You're right, I agree that the new Impreza is quite attractive.

As most journalists have mentioned, they're not that bad in person,

It looks every bit as bad in person.

If they wanted to do something a bit different and interesting, maybe a set of large factory rally mudflaps. Then call it a day.

That cladding is bad.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Small stretch and get the Golf R DSG.  Vastly superior in ever way.

This car is ugly and slow.  If you must, get the base version and at least safe a lot of cash.

Agreed.  I don’t mind the overall body shape but in person the cladding looks worse to my eyes.

Not to mention…. This car is slow.

Don't forget about the GR Corolla, it too doesn't have the bad black plastic cladding.
