Here’s 2023 Cadillac US sales according to GM Authority. XT4 is not the top seller in the US. Maybe for Canada only?

My numbers are indeed for Canada, and they are quite different, in absolute and in order. Less than 500 CT4's were sold here in 2023... I very, very rarely see a new Cadillac sedan and the numbers show why.

It's interesting that despite the fact that the cars sold in each country are mostly the same, Canadians tend to have substantially different tastes from American buyers in some ways.

See also the first gen Toyota Venza, the Mazda MX-3, compact vs mid size sedan sales, etc.

Just crossing the border, the variation in the overall vehicle mix always hits me in the face.

That being said, there's huge variation state by state and province by province, and even in areas within

My local dealer can’t move Lyriqs. They’ve sold three and one got traded back in within a few months. They sell Escalades and XT6’s mostly. China has a redesigned XT5, I expect we’ll see that and a move away from the EV plan and more PHEV’s (again, Cadillac offers this in China).

Luxury sedans are dying no matter who builds them. So many excellent offerings out there yet they remain a rare sight. Really, people’s buying preferences these days are sad, bring on moar crossovers!

And here's a new one, and a full EV at that: Cadillac Optiq

Branding. BMW is dropping all "i's" from ICE cars as "i" is their "e", although "e" is for their PHEVs. Makes sense?

Power

All XT4's are powered by the same corporate 2.0 turbo four. This mill is gaining steam with the restomod crowd and is appearing in older F-bodies these days. Here it makes do with premium-gas fed 235 horses, paired to a conventional 9-speed auto. In classic Detroit fashion, the first mm of pedal travel gives you the big motor feel, and the XT4 is sprightly around town. Floor it at highway speeds though and it lacks some oomph. The Camaro's 300 hp tune of this flexible engine would do wonders in the Sport. The Luxury is fwd-only, but is cheaper than many CR-V trims. The Premium Luxury and Sport have std awd, and as with other GM utes you can lock it in fwd to save gas. My avg for the week was 10.8 l/100 km.

I had one for a week last year ( a new 2023) as a loaner when my Yukon was in the shop. I think it was the Sport trim. I found the responsiveness great around town and not too shabby on the highway, I never floored it, but it was perfectly capable of accelerating from 110 to well beyond legal speeds with a not to deep prod on the go pedal.

And I see the revised front end has got the headlights below the running lights perfectly in keeping with GM chasing the latest fad.
