A good 10 year ride. That was a great price, I should have bought it a few days ago when I was up buying the Volvo but I guess it was still in pieces at that point.  ;D

I’d have given you a rope and you could have towed it home.  ;D

Damn.  It looks almost new!  I like it when someone takes pride in ownership.

I may have missed it - what are you buying now?

Ordered a manual Crosstrek back in July. Just got an email yesterday that it's due in Calgary this weekend and should be ready for delivery next week.

Seems like a downgrade.  :P Think you'll keep it for 12 years too?

Yeah, that’s the plan. Think the shortest I’ve ever owned a vehicle is 7 years. I guess I only had the Suburban for 5, but it got written off and I replaced it with the Yukon XL. I’m sure I’d still have it otherwise.

We’ll see about the Crosstrek. I think it will be enjoyable in its own way.

Oh, and I must have messed with the thread title when I did an update in 2020.

Car is actually a 2010, bought in April 2010, so almost 13 years old now.

Well, that's it. GTI has sold.  :'(

Twelve years and nine months of fun and trouble-free ownership.

That violates the narrative!   :rofl2:

Still one of the best looking hatches ever.

Congrats on the sale and the latest purchase.

I'm sure, especially mid winter. Even in the southern banana belt you should have some left! The residential areas here have a foot of packed mushy snow, it's like surfing going over it with the Crossie

That interior held up extremely well. The whole thing still looks new in the photos. Congrats on the sale, probably a lot easier to let it go after recent events.

Congrats on the sale and purchase.

As somebody that went from a GTI to Corolla, I will say I'd be shocked if you don't enjoy the Crosstrek more as a daily driver. The only time I really miss my GTI is for those few minutes where you get some twisty roads all to yourself which is very rare around here.

Congrats on the quick (and seemingly painless) sale process.

Excuse me if this was covered in another thread but I'm a little surprised at the replacement vehicle. A Crosstrek has lots of good qualities but as a competitor to a GTI it doesn't immediately come to mind. I'd be interested to know what the thought process was.

Thanks.

And, yeah, that’s pretty much what I’m thinking. I almost have more fun driving the Yukon on the twisty roads here. In the Yukon, I can take the corners at 7/10ths, feel like I’m actually driving the vehicle, and still only be doing ten over the limit.

7/10ths in the GTI is still license-losing territory, and I just don’t have fun doing that on public roads anymore. And if I do want to take the chance, there’s always someone in the way.  :(

(^^ Thought process for sailor. Part of it, anyway. Prob more to follow in my Crosstrek thread.  :) )

Congrats on the sale. It still looks great today, and no way that was a $6900 car pre-covid. Or would it? I think my mind has adapted to the insane prices now a days.

Honestly, I don’t know about the pre-Covid price. Wasn’t really thinking about selling it, so didn’t look into it too deep. Maybe I just stumbled across some ads, but that was the general sense I had at the time.

And just for the record, the car is definitely starting to show some rust around the fenders. Some bubbling that I didn’t deal with, and a few bigger patches that I took down to bare metal and did an amateur repair on. Car looks decent from 10-20 feet, which I’m good with on an older daily driver like this. Thankfully, buyer seemed to feel the same way.

Congrats on the quick sale. Interior looks fantastic & has aged well.

Pre-Covid that was easily a $7k car. The used market went crazy due to the shortage of new cars, and is slowly coming back down now.

I agree. The beginning of rust and near 200k kms. Price paid was fair.
