Incredible
Very impressive.  I mean the last generation was mighty impressive to begin with but to better it again, and let's not fool ourselves this is peak FWD performance.  There isn't much left I would think from any FWD performance vehicles.

So, that's a bone stock Civic Type R, eh?  Not even a cage.

I wonder what tires they were running - do they use the best tires that are available the car from the factory, or do they put on some super high end racing rubber?

ALSO, he's making judicious use of the auto-rev-match feature to blip the throttle.  Zero heel/toe in that video.

He's regularly pulling 1.2-1.4G in the corners, I'd say he's on DOT R-compound rubber or damn close to it

I think typically for the time to count, it has to be on tires that come from factory, whether they are optional or not.  It's the same with the Lightning Lap for Car and Driver, this past year the new Audi RS3 had an R compound tire as an option from factory and because of that it out performed the previous generation by 13 seconds.  I think the tires that come on the Type R are pretty top notch, but not R compound.  I think the reason why they were pulling so many g's is due to the banking on some of those turns on the Ring, which will allow you to carry more speed and with that increase the amount of g's felt in the corner.

Edit:  https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43646291/2023-honda-civic-type-r-front-wheel-drive-nurburgring-record/  looks like it was wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s, which I don't think are R compound, but I could be wrong.  The previous record holder did so with  Bridgestone S007 rubber (Megane RS Trophy R).

Apparently the tires are dealer installed options.  Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 track tires, which look to be R compound?

Just looking it up and it appears it's not R compound as they have a model above that one called "Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R", where as the one's on the Civic Type R have an "S" at the end.
