Still a cool car today. Quick random story: back in 2017 on one of my trips to the Hyundai R&D centre in Namyang, we were doing a final validation test on the G70's manual gearbox. As an updated version of the box once used in the Genesis Coupe, we knew it wouldn't be exceptional, but a series of linkage and bushing adjustments promised noticeable improvements.
Sure enough, it felt fine. To validate we also had an old Genesis Coupe mule and an E90 BMW 3-series, which was the target for shift feel. Oddly, though, there was also a bright red Nismo 370Z, brought because they had once used it for benchmarking the Genesis Coupe. Of course, we focused on the BMW and the G70 and ignored the other two for the official test - the Gen Coupe because I had six of them in the past, and the Nismo because it wasn't relevant.
Following the test, we had to wait for a bus to come bring us back to a different compound. During the downtime, a Korean colleague of mine mentioned she'd never been in a 370Z. As she didn't know how to drive stick, I took her out for a quick spin on the test track.
Shortly after doing a full-bore standing start, she shouted from the passenger seat "what's wrong with the engine? Why does it sound like that?" In the moment, I couldn't think of how to explain that's just how the VQ sounds! After the drive she commented on how much she loved the sense that it was "really old." I couldn't help but agree. Once again: cool car.
