I agree that some of the price differential is marketing influenced. The GTI has recognition as class leading, where as the GLI (previous models), have always been perceived  as second tier, (perhaps unfairly).

What I would like is the GTI/GLI suspension and driveline, in the Sportwagen shell. I know, the market share would be abysmal, but Damn!!!, what a great wagon! Forget the plastic doodads on the Alltrack, and create a true GT touring wagon.
