2.0T vs 2.0L
« on: August 15, 2019, 11:35:25 am »
Hi,
Can anyone explain me the difference between "T" and "L" when it comes to Engine of the car ? The reason i am asking is that I am developing a dealership software and I am including this primary feature but didn't understand the difference of T and L.
Thank you.

T usually refers to turbocharged.
L usually indicates engine capacity. In this case 2 liters (2000cc).

I am no expert, but the current standard unit for engine capacity seems to be liters.

Yes, generally all engines are measured in litres. These numbers are usually rounded. So for example, an engine with 1960 cubic centimetres is rounded to 2.0 litres.

The "L" and "T" designations are not either/or though. Adding the "T" is just shorthand for saying that the engine is turbocharged. A 2.0T is still a 2.0L engine, if that makes sense. The L is usually implied, so if you describe an engine as being a 3.0 V6, that means it's a 3.0 litre engine.

Transverse vs longitudinal. How the engine is mounted in the engine bay.
Enjoying the Alberta advantage

I think in common use the T stands for Turbocharged.

My Q5 was a 2.0T   with a longitudinal engine, the Volvo is a 2.0T with a transverse engine.

T = transmission
L = lack thereof

You have to source your own.
