They are not unique.  Many car companies have more SUV than cars.

Infiniti even has 5 SUV they identify as specific models...

Wish there were more cars....but the segment is hot right now...so that's what they're going after.

I mentioned in my first post that this wasn't directed at Lexus specifically.  IMHO, when you get up into the 5-6 model range under the same category it's getting way too redundant.  I can't recall another vehicle category ever that has this many variants.

I understood what you meant.  I only used Infiniti, a smaller manufacturer, to show it's "normal".

Companies like GM have about ~15 offerings.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I am talking about one brand, not an umbrella of brands.  If you combined Toyota and Lexus it would be up there as well.  I'm not a marketing guy so obviously they know what they are doing, not me.  I guess I just find it a little monotonous having that many sizes of the same thing.

What about sedans?

CUVs, etc are just the modern replacement for sedans and like companies that offered multiple sedans in the past we now have SUVs and CUVs in their place.

Good question.  But I can't think of a brand that has six different size/model Sedans on the market.

I'm really derailing the thread though so my apologies.  :(

Really?  Audi...A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8.  And they all more or less look the same. ;D

I think C-HR is wider than the Yaris, or at least it looks so...

It looks like it, but the rear seat looks like it came out of Yaris. It's tiny. The Honda HR-V is the only subcompact CUV that has a near compact wide rear seat.

I realize that SUVs/CUVs are popular, but holy how many different models does one manufacturer need?  I'm not directing this at Lexus specifically, but just industry in general.  This will be Lexus' 6th model will it not?
I think Lexus may kill off the LX and GX once the RX-L comes on line
The last Gen of LX is from 2008 and the GX is from 2010 , and I have not seen anything about new generation for these two models

The LX/Landcruiser, never. That’s been a Toyota staple for over half a century. The RX-L will not come anywhere close to the size or capability of the LX or even the GX. It’s not a volume seller but they make lots for every one sold.

The interior has been updated to match the other Lexus models as with the exterior. That’s all they need to do with those two for the time being. Why mess with a good thing?

Yea, but they look similar enough to a sedan to not really stand out as a hatchback.

I did put the Rav4 in the Car thread, so things are still in balance  ;)

Two things: even when you say it with a "smart" accent, ppl still won't believe this UX has a 24kWh battery, nor is it likely to have a direct-shift CVT, not in the hybrid trim anyway.

Any updates on the Fusion PHEV?

I’m seeing the mini-utes everywhere now, even on Bro-Dozer Alberta. This segment is exploding and the empty nester Boomers are lapping them up.

A premium version of the CH-R makes a ton of sense in today’s market.

A 24 kWh battery (but NiMh) and no plug? What a shame  ;) At least its fuel consumption - City/Highway/Combined L/100km looks efficient: 5.7 / 6.2 / 6.0 (which is quite good for AWD CUV I guess, these ratings are close to my Volt "after" the traction battery depleted but I digress... )

Under Mechanical section as seen https://www.lexus.ca/lexus/en/automobiles/ux/specifications#specs-data-table the UX 250h is Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT), the non hybrid UX 200 is Direct Shift Continuously Variable Transmission (Direct Shift-CVT)

*Edit* The only reference to a 24 kW nickel-metal hydride battery I found was on https://driving.ca/reviews/road-test/first-drive-2019-lexus-ux
How big is it in the Camry hybrid (with NiMh) ?

Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...

FE is OK since the '19 Rav hybrid posts similar numbers while being bigger and more powerful. I don't recall seeing 2.0L engine in any other Toyota hybrid applications, not locally anyway.
The new Camry Hybrid uses either 1kWh Li-ion or 1.6kWh NiMh battery, depending on the trim.
The tranny here is a PSD, but on this one I blame Lexus for confusion.

I'm beginning to wonder where the 24kWh number has come from. It doesn't look like they missed a dot between 2 and 4, because 2.4kWh is still too much for a conventional hybrid, let alone the less powerful one. Lexus did trademarked a name for the full EV UX but then again nowadays ppl expect around 60kWh worth of storage for a stress-free driving. So, is it possible that this 24kWh is actually a real battery designated for a plug-in UX hybrid?
