Changing my mind on a car purchase
« on: November 25, 2018, 07:34:07 pm »
Hey everyone,
I’ve been toying with the idea of a new vehicle for a while, so I approached our local small town dealer, after going back and forth for a couple weeks on prices and types I decided on the 2019 Chev Equinox LS; the suv was in another dealership 45 mins away so he had it brought over a few days ago but was unable to finish the paperwork until after the weekend. After sitting with the idea over the weekend I’ve chnaged my mind; I’m not sure I’m getting a good deal and to be honest I’m not even sure of the specs on this one as it all happened so quick. I will be paying 232/ bi weekly for it; for 7 years. If it too late to back out now that he had brought the car over from another dealer ?? ( I have signed no papers yet but have been approved)

Well, you’re paying $42,224 over 7 years for something.

Crafty buggers  ;)
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

I decided on the 2019 Chev Equinox LS

If you are going all in on debt LONG term why don't you get something that will be worth SOMETHING later on and stay clear of the DI turbos vehicles.

Go get a 2018 RAV with Toyota Safety Sense.

+1 or go find a used 2016+ Rav4 Hybrid. You can probably get a 2016 limited with all the safety tech for just under 30K$.  SUV space, amazing fuel economy and very reliable!

Used Rav Hybrid not worth the cost.  Units are ridiculous loud inside.  Got the impression OP was seeking OEM financing.  OP was seeking 72 mth finance which IMO is too long a term, but it's currently 2.5%.  Bank used rate for 72 mth will be > 7% .  :P

60 mth is 2%.  If you can't afford to pay a car off in 5 years then seek something less expensive.

Yea, I'd go new...if there's any leftovers available.

Barring hybrid, a regular Rav4 would do nicely.

What are your thoughts on going used for a chev equinox; 2013; 76,000 kms $15,995 is the price in the window, once financed and paid off over 4 years its looking to be $20,000.....

( FYI this is my first time purchasing new and financing as you can tell)

FYI, my boss's wife has an Equinox from that era.  It burns oil like a MOFO, and is currently in need of a new engine.  Granted, it has close to 200 000kms on the odo, but still, there are heaps of other cars that can make it past 200 000kms without a single problem.

Combine this with the fact that GM made the decision to pull all manufacturing from Canada, and I'm struggling to think of a reason why anybody should support GM and buy one of their shoddily built vehicles.

With that thinking why should anyone buy a Hyundai, they had a plant in Quebec, that they closed down and don't have any manufacturing in Canada

From what I read in that (ancient) article, by closing the plant in Bromont, Hyundai was obliged to pay back whatever assistance the federal and provincial governments had given them.

Do some research.  One of Wards worst engines.  Avoid.  Those units are JUNK throughout.
