Renting a Tow Vehicle
« on: November 18, 2018, 04:32:19 pm »
Hey everyone....

We have a tent trailer that the MPV has been adequately pulling but is at the upper limit once people and gear are added.  Although it is 12 years old, it only has 168,000 kms but I'm looking ahead to maybe a larger trailer in the next few years.

We really dont need a larger vehicle in the family fleet like a pickup/midsize SUV on a permanent basis other than when we're camplng several times a year.

Anyone know (other than U-Haul) that rents vehicles (other than commercial vans) with hitches and 7 pin connectors for this sort of purpose?

Thanks!

TOL.

Tough one. Rental companies specifically try to avoid hitches etc to stop this very thing. It may even be buried in the rental agreement (towing).

UHaul for sure is one that will allow you to tow.  However, they probably don't have a crew cab truck suitable for families (although maybe they do).

Around these parts I’m sure Driving Force will provide a rental for towing.

It seems like Enterprise Truck could allow towing, but only on their 3/4 ton and 1-ton models.  Crew cabs are available.

Yes, you probably want some place that does a lot of commercial rentals, they probably do a lot of trucks to contractors.
My diesel car self-identifies as an electric vehicle.

Smart thing to do would be to call Enterprise Truck just to make sure they allow towing in Canada.  I found it specifically says you can on the US website, but I found no such mention on the Canadian website.

Call to be sure.
