I enjoyed my week in the Fusion, even if it was difficult to cover the same car just a few weeks apart. Of course the extra power of the EcoBoost was welcome, but at the end of the week it hurt a little more at the pumps than the Hybrid.
Average fuel consumption for me this week was 9.2 L/100 km. The closest comparison I have to the Fusion in terms of power and drivetrain is the Volvo S60 I drove in April. The Volvo also averaged 9.2 L/100 km so I guess they are on par – I wasn’t thrilled with 9.2 L/100 km in the Volvo and I’m not overly happy this week either.
I expected better from the EcoBoost 2.0L engine than I achieved with mostly highway driving – the Hybrid netted me high 5s so this was about 60 percent worse and, in percentage terms, that is a lot. Overall though, the Fusion is one of my top choices in the mid-sized sedan category – if I were shopping I’d be sure to test it along with the Sonata, Altima, Camry and Accord.
