Now this is a car I have been waiting to get my hands on! The new 2013 Ford Focus ST, a true hot hatch available only with a six-speed manual gearbox and a 2.0L GTDI EcoBoost engine.
An engine that produces 252 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque – unfortunately the power goes to the front wheels, but Ford has integrated a lot of computer smarts to ensure that it happens smoothly. Oh, and it only requires 87 octane!

Some will complain that the ST is available at a much lower price in the USA, this is true but their standard equipment is more basic. In Canada due to the limited number of these that will be sold, they come pretty much decked out standard, including the amazing Recaro seats!
The base price is $29,999 although Ford is currently offering a $2,900 discount on the cars. My tester adds a moonroof ($1,200), navigation for $800 and the special equipment group for $1,000 that adds leather steering wheel, ambient lighting, fog lamps and a few other goodies.
Obvious competitors to this car are the Volkswagen GTI and MazdaSpeed3, all of them have their pluses and minuses for sure – hopefully this week I can explore mostly pluses in the ST.
