The exterior of the new CTS continues Cadillac’s “Art and Science” design philosophy, but it has smoother surfaces and lines than the outgoing car and has been increased in size. The result, according to Bob Boniface, Cadillac’s exterior design director, creates “a lighter, thinner appearance, while taut, linear design elements emphasize its stretched profile.”
The new CTS grows in length by a substantial 127 mm (about five inches) and its roofline, hood line and windshield base are all about 25 mm lower. The wheelbase, at 2,911 mm, is 31 mm longer than the outgoing CTS.

Complementing the various design elements and character lines designed to visually stretch the profile of the new CTS, other exterior changes include the use of a wider grille, available illuminating door handles, aluminum trim around the side windows, and chrome trapezoidal exhaust ports.
The 3.6L twin-turbo V6 in the Vsport represents Cadillac’s first twin-turbo engine. According to Cadillac it is not only the most power-dense V6 in the luxury segment at 118 horsepower per litre, but also the most powerful V6 ever from General Motors at its rated 420 hp. It will propel the CTS from 0–100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and top speed is estimated at 274 km/h. Later this year, the engine will also be found in the 2014 Cadillac XTS full-size luxury sedan.
Although based on the same architecture as the existing naturally aspirated V6, the twin turbo uses a uniquely cast block and cylinder heads, new aluminum camshaft covers, plus additional differentiating features.
To be clear, the Vsport is not the CTS-V. That’s a different, super-high-performance model, and the powertrain for that vehicle is still to be announced. Likewise the Coupe and Wagon CTS versions were not discussed at New York, with some reports suggesting that these may not be continued.
Construction of the 2014 Cadillac CTS begins in the fall of 2013 in Lansing, Michigan. Expect delivery to showrooms late in 2013.
