Mission, British Columbia – The 10-year anniversary of the Historic Motors Races at B.C.’s Mission Raceway Park will be held July 17 to 19, 2009. First staged in 1999, the weekend has become a festival of on- and off-track activities that draws the largest visitor audience to a non-professional motor racing event in the province.

The theme of this year’s event is Westwood 50, a salute to the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Westwood racetrack in July 1959. The event will pay tribute to the cars that raced from 1959 to 1990, and event series such as Formula Atlantic, Player’s Pacific, Player’s/GM series, Honda and Pepsi Pro races. This year includes an invitation to all years of Formula Fords.

On the Mission track, up to 100 pre-1988 cars will compete in eight classes all three days, with a special ceremony and parade on Sunday, May 19 at noon. All types of cars will be racing, including sports racers, formula cars, Trans Am race sedans, and sports cars from most manufacturers and countries.

As with most Historic Motor racing events, spectators can access the drivers and their race cars in the paddock. There will also be VIP rides in a variety of new and vintage cars on Saturday and Sunday with a donation to the event’s charity. For more information, visit the Vintage Race Club of B.C. or Westwood 50.
