When is the last time you saw a pickup truck or an SUV equipped with an exterior cage mounted with a set of spotlights? Sounds like the 90s are making a comeback, right? And the first thing that comes to this 90s kid’s mind when cage and spotlights are involved is obviously Jurassic Park. So when GMC launches the Sierra 1500 All Terrain X limited edition with a sport bar, it’s easy to picture the off-road-capable pickup truck tackling the South American jungle to outrun say a T-Rex.

Inspired by a trend of off-road customization observed among the enthusiasts, GM has come up with a special edition of their refreshed, best-selling pickup truck to “offer more choices for finding the premium truck that matches customers’ style and capability needs,” according to GMC sales and marketing VP Duncan Aldred. The  Sierra All Terrain X (the X is the real focus here) will combine all the options of the standard All Terrain package with a few added perks. The standard package includes features such as a skid plate, a set of Z71 off-road suspensions with Rancho shocks, rear-park assist, spray-on bedliner and an inclinometer, as well as a flight of visual details.

Add an “X” to your 2016 Sierra 1500 4WD All Terrain SLT crew cab/short box and you also get 18-inch wheels fitted with all-terrain Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac MT tires, body colour side steps, a bed-mounted sport bar with LED spotlights, trim-specific body paint colors as well as a performance exhaust system that boosts the 5.3L V8 output by 10 hp to reach 365 hp. A little extra power for when the T-Rex is well rested and particularly hungry.

The All Terrain X edition will be available for sale sometime this spring. As they say, life finds a way.
