Have you been sulking over the disappearance of the C-Class Wagon from the Mercedes-Benz Canadian lineup? Sulk no more, the automaker has heard your cries of anguish and is bringing back the crowd favourite. In 2016, the C-Class family will welcome the returning wagon and it will be offered with a diesel engine. Perhaps the best part? It’s Canada-only – no wagon for you USA!

Unveiled at the Montreal International Auto Show on Thursday, the new C-Class Wagon came as a bit of a surprise – no small feat, considering how pictures of the new E-Class leaked before its launch in Detroit. The family-oriented, sedan-based wagon has adopted a sexier silhouette. As sexy as a wagon gets. The roof line looks a little more dynamic and easier on the eye than it previously was. This new generation sees a wheelbase lengthened by 80 mm, for a total length that 96 mm longer, which translates to increased legroom for rear passengers. The new wagon also receives an increased maximum load capacity of 1,510 L with 40:20:40 split rear seats for added convenience.

Powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine rated at 200 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, the C300d 4Matic will feature Start-Stop technology for even better fuel efficiency. Drivers will also be able to adjust the car’s performance and handling between Eco, Comfort and Sport modes. The wagon will be equipped with Airmatic suspension, which may be a needless complexity.

The C-Class Wagon will also possess safety technologies previously seen on the S- and E-Classes, including Attention Assist, Collision Prevention Assist and Active Parking Assist, adding up to what Mercedes-Benz calls an “intelligent car”. We, for one, welcome our autonomous vehicle overlords.

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Wagon is expected to go on sale later this year.
