Your dreams (or nightmares) will become reality sooner than you think.  The topless variant of one of Land Rover’s  best known models has been unveiled in London with proper British pomp and circumstance. Coming to your local Land Rover/Jaguar dealership this Spring; the all-new Range Rover Evoque Convertible. Ready or not, here it comes, whether you love the idea or haven’t quite warmed up to it.

Despite the boldness of of a convertible SUV design, the look isn’t as unsettling as you might expect. The character lines of the Evoque Convertible remain true to the award-winning design. Other than the roofline, of course. The lightweight, soft top folds down in approximately 18 seconds and raises in 21 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h, and thanks to the Z-fold mechanism, the canvas is neatly stowed away for a flawless silhouette. If the seating capacity remains unchanged, the cargo volume takes a drop, going from a convenient 575L volume to only 251.

The newcomer shares the same existing powertrain as its four-door counterpart, a four-cylinder turbocharged engine rated at 240 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque, teamed with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Land Rover’s “all-season convertible” in the HSE Dynamic version and offer a generous list of options, including the new-generation InControl TouchPro infotainment system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Pricing will start at $64,990.

The only thing left to determine is if this is a genuine effort to bring the outdoors inside, or if it’s just another excuse for driving an off-road vehicle in an urban setting with the top down and the music blasting.
