Chevrolet has updated its Silverado pickup with updated front-end styling the manufacturer calls “the new face of strong.” The new look includes the requisite over-use of LED accent lighting on all trims, and bolder grille bars that can be painted to match the body colour, or chromed to the hilt.

Buyers who appreciate LEDs for more than just decoration will like that LTZ, Z71 and High Country models get LED lighting all around: headlights, turn signals, daytime running lights, and taillights. LT and LTZ models get the aforementioned chromed grille, Z71 trim gets a monochromatic look, and High Country trim gets the body-coloured grille pieces.

LTZ, Z71 and High Country models are the ones that benefit from expanded availability of GM’s eight-speed automatic transmission, which becomes standard in those models with the 5.3L V8; previously, it was only offered with the 6.2L V8 engine. Other engine choices remain the same, including the base 4.3L V6 (the only stuck with the old six-speed auto exclusively), and the 5.3L.

Inside, 2016 models get an upgraded version of Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system that will work with Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration systems, which let devices with the appropriate app be connected to the truck and controlled by MyLink. Other tech updates include wireless phone charging in LT and LTZ double and crew cab models with front bucket seats.

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado was revealed to the public at the State Fair of Texas, in Dallas, today. Pricing hasn’t been set, but we’d expect the new truck to go on sale later this year, with prices to be announced closer to that time.
