Ottawa, Ontario – Strap on your helmet, buckle up tight and get on the go! Targa Newfoundland is Canada’s largest and most recognized Rally event. This year marks Targa Newfoundland’s 14th anniversary, with over 1,600 kilometres of challenging roads on “The Rock” and some new stages to challenge first-time and returning competitors.

The new competitive Targa stages, where the cars are scored for the competition, are in Flatrock, Conception Bay South, Marysvale, Turks Gut, Champney’s East, English Harbour, Little Catalina, Whitbourne and Cupids. The new competitive sections represent a mix of short- and medium-length stages over a variety of conditions that will surely test even the most experienced competitors.

Autos.ca would like to announce that long-time contributor and race car driver James Bergeron will be participating in this year’s event as part of the Bad Company Motorsports Team, sponsored by Calabogie Motorsports Park.

Bad Company Motorsports will be competing in the Targa division with their 1967 CAV GT40 Gulf Oil Edition, piloted by Mark McDonald (driver) and James Bergeron (co-pilot / navigator). This exclusive vehicle is powered by a 348 c.i (5.0L) Ford Crate engine with electronic fuel injection – dynoed at 480 hp and mated to a ZF five-speed transmission.

“This is going to be the experience of a lifetime. Like any racing event, preparation is key, but I can’t wait to spend a full week exploring the beautiful island of Newfoundland in one of the most recognizable and historic cars of all time,” said James Bergeron.

This unique car is sure to make waves all around Newfoundland with its classic exotic looks and an intoxicating sound at idle and at full chat on the closed roads of the small towns all around the island of Newfoundland.

When asked, why Targa? McDonald replied, “Although competing in the OPRC/CRC regional and national rally events is very demanding and quite rewarding, nothing really compares to the Targa Newfoundland with their open roads and town stages – see you all soon.”
