A day ahead of its official reveal on May 16, the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro was shown, undisguised, on CNBC’s Squawk Box morning segment.
You can see a screengrab of the moment of truth here at Car & Driver, though that image was later edited out of the video. (You can see CNBC flash the car across the screen here.) Unsurprisingly, the new car looks a lot like the old one, but we know a few technical details for sure , including the fact the car will share its underpinnings with the Cadillac ATS.
That leads us to another nugget: it’s being rumoured the car will also share the ATS’ turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine, tuned for 270 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. That’s not too surprising given the muscle car class-leading Mustang has been available with a turbo four for about a year already. The other rumoured engine options are a 3.6L V6 with 330 hp/275 lb-ft, and the one thing that makes a muscle car a muscle car: a big V8, which in this case will be a 6.2L V8 making 440 hp and 450 lb-ft.
This is all plausible stuff, and will be proven right, wrong or somewhere in between tomorrow, May 16, when GM reveals the car in Detroit.
