Congrats, it’s a crossover!

What’s in the box? What’s in the box? It’s a crossover! Hmm, maybe I should have stuck with the red snapper. Oh well, I was never very good at Wheel of Fish.

Pretending to show us all a little “magic,” Audi floated in a huge mysterious box, and then opened it to reveal the newest addition to their lineup, the all-new Q7. Which is actually a bit of a box itself.

Gone are the swelling flanks of Audi’s old three-row crossover, and here is a new square-sided shape, one that’s a tad more handsome, falls in line with the rest of the range, and should provide some additional space. The other big news is the weight reduction: this new Q7 is a whopping 325 kg lighter than the old machine. Less weight means better handling, improved cargo capacity, and less fuel burned. When equipped with the 272-hp 3.0 TDI engine, Audi claims a 0-100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds and fuel consumption as low as 5.7 L/100 km. Not at the same time, obviously.

Also on display was a canary-yellow example of the new Q3, which keeps the same powertrain options, but gets the updated grille treatment. Look for the new front fascia to roll out through the rest of the Audi lineup.
