“We’re still very much committed to diesel.”
Updates on the future diesel-powered Mazda6 have been light during 2014, but Mazda is still working to bring the option to North America, reports Automotive News.
“We’re still very much committed to diesel,” said Jim O’Sullivan, CEO of Mazda North American Operations, to AN.
“We are still working on getting the performance aspects up to where we want them, and we do have a plan — an engineering road map — to get it done.”
The issue, it seems, is Mazda initially wanted to bring the diesel 2.2-litre motor to market in North America without an expensive after treatment system. That solution didn’t impress North American executives with its performance so it was sent back to the drawing board in January.
No timelines were given, or even suggested, in the interview.
