T6 AWD to achieve 7.7L/100km combined; T8 PHEV clocks in at 2.7L/100km

When the 2015 Volvo XC90 finally hits dealer lots in Canada, the second-generation utility will command $60,700 for the base model T6 AWD Momentum model. For those that are counting, that’s $10,100 more than the outgoing model.

Volvo seems to be going up in the world.

Featuring a new ‘two-branch’ approach to trim levels, Volvo will separate the XC90 into luxury and sport lines. Both branches will be available with the base T6 powertrain — a 320-hp 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine — or the new T8 setup that adds an 80-hp electric motor to the mix for a total of 400 hp.

T6 models, returning 7.7L/100km on combined 5-cycle testing, will be available as Momentum, R-Design ($65,200), and Inscription ($66,800) with varying options packages.

The XC90 T8, clocking in an incredibly impressive 2.7L/100km combined thanks to its plug-in hybrid architecture, is limited to just the two top trims — R-Design ($73,400) and Inscription ($75,000).

“The all-new XC90 is an integral part of the re-launching of the Volvo brand,” said Marc Engelen, President & CEO of Volvo Cars of Canada.

“This vehicle is an important illustration of Volvo’s Scandinavian roots and the design, performance and price will be competitive with rival SUVs in the luxury segment.”
