Some recalled vehicles were not shown due to parts not being available

According to the U.S. Transportation Department and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, GM’s recall website has not been giving customers correct information about recalled vehicles.

The website was launched by the automaker to provide customers with easy access to recall information about their vehicles by providing their vehicle identification number (VIN).

Some customers who owned recalled vehicles were told their cars were recall free. According to Automotive News, this happened when parts were not available for a particular recall.

GM said the website would be changed, but those with questions should call one of the company’s available toll-free numbers for more information.

NHTSA later told customers to check the GM recall website after 5:30 pm EST on Friday.

In Canada, vehicle owners can also check Transport Canada’s recall database.
