AURORA, ON – Learning to drive is an exciting and sometimes scary step in life’s journey. On Saturday September 15, 2012, Celebrate My Drive (CMD) will see community leaders, politicians and celebrities from across Canada and the U.S. join in a show of support for teen drivers. It will be the largest gathering of new teen drivers in history.

Car crashes are the number one killer of Canadian teens and their first year on the road is the most dangerous. Over 700 young people are killed each year in road crashes in Canada and a further 50,000 are injured, many seriously.

Though traditional scare tactics can be engaging for some, State Farm believes a supportive and positive approach to teen driver safety in addition to education, awareness, legislation and enforcement is key to keeping teens engaged and safe on the road. State Farm will be rallying communities to promote teen driver safety by hosting more than 360 events simultaneously across North America.

The marquee CMD event in Canada takes place on September 15 at Sherway Gardens, 25 The West Mall, Toronto, ON. The event goes from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET and features prizes, giveaways and Toronto native Jamaal Magloire of the Toronto Raptors. All are welcome to join us!

In addition to this State Farm is encouraging Canadians to attend a local CMD event near them to support teens as they learn to drive and get ready for the road ahead. You can find a local event near you by visiting www.celebratemydrive.com.

You Can Win Big!

You can show your support by voting for a local high school to win a $100,000 grant at www.celebratemydrive.com between September 10 and September 15. State Farm is giving a total of 14 $100,000 grants to high schools across Canada and the U.S.

One lucky Canadian teenager (15-18) will win the grand prize, a brand new Chevy Sonic LS! A total of 14 cars will be given away. (Complete rules are available at www.celebratemydrive.com/rules)
