Because Europe is the land of diesels!
The Chevrolet Volt’s European cousin is set to be discontinued when the Volt is due for its mid-cycle refresh, says Automotive News according to two people close to the plans.
Sales, or a lack thereof, are the reason for the discontinuation of the electric vehicle. Ever since its introduction to the European market, the Ampera has been nowhere near its sales goals.
For comparison, AN states only 46 Amperas were sold in Germany so far this year, while Ferrari has sold 83 units of their F12 supercar in the same period.
A refreshed Chevrolet Volt is expected in the second half of 2015 as a 2016 model.
