Am I the only one left a little wanting for more after reading that?  Nothing against your writing, Chris, but against the car itself?

The interior seems decidedly Honda, and not Acura-esque.  The weight is not low enough for that kind of interior, me thinks.

9-speed auto isn't exciting, either, but I can't say that I'm surprised.  If it has the dog clutches, I'm wondering what that'll do on a track - but perhaps the electric motors will mitigate?

The engine still seems really neat, though, and the eVectoring will be neat to try out some day.  At 87.5" wide, that thing isn't fitting in most parking garages beside anything else...shyeet.

Thanks for the update, Chris!

Still love the NSX in any form.  This new one is a lot different than the old one but I'm cool with that if they can offer ultra high performance at a reasonable price (say $150K or less).

I think I'd prefer this over a Corvette Z06, Nissan GTR, or Porsche Turbo.  I might be swayed into an Audi R8, but this new NSX is the super car for the tree huggers out there.

even a suggestion of when the NSX will go on sale.

Same old, same old.

Still prefer the good ol' GT-R based on what I've seen here.  It seems that old standbys still rule the roost.  Want AWD?  GT-R.  Want RWD?  Z-06.  On a "budget?"  Cayman.  Own a yacht?  918.

Reading the powertrain specifications I wonder if they should not have added another electric motor, one that would keep the turbo spinning when the throttle is closed like an F1 car.  Also with Honda's recent experience in F1 why the transmission is not a 'seamless ' gearchange unit. That technology has been around for a few years and should be sorted by now.

Anyway. For my money ( somewhere between $100 and $200K I'd bet) I think I'd have a conventionally powered Porsche or Audi with no hybrid system.  If the NSX could have all that hybrid stuff removed and replaced with an AWD Porsche Turbo system it would be a great looking car and would probably keep on working.

I do worry about the width...I wonder if they are not planning to sell in in the EU where parking spaces are generally narrower than in North America.

Well, that was a fine reprint of the Acura press release.

The new NSX does indeed seem to have a bit of almost every technology going (bar hydrogen lunacy). However, so did the original NSX in 1990 for its time:

http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/first-drives/reviews/a8837/first-drive-1990-acura-nsx/

So, can we expect the new NSX to be soldiering along in 2032 with only mild updates? The 2005 NSX was only a bit upgraded after 15 years, and Ferrari and Lamborghini ate its breakfast for at least a decade, while AMG and BMW sports sedans were just as quick and handled better. Plus as the years went by, the original chassis was a bit structurally un-stiff compared to most other cars, not helped by lopping off the roof for a '77 Firebird T-Top look on the flashy model.

This new one seems to have exhausted the energy of the development team, taking over four years to develop.  Surely the market for this sort of high-priced supercar demands new and glorious updates every 5 years so the proud financial services/banker owner can show off the latest. McLaren seems capable of bringing out new versions of its supercars all the time, and has that really radical hydraulic suspension on the more expensive versions.

But Honda is likely to heave a giant sigh of relief that the new NSX is finally about to be available, then sit on its hands for a decade or more basking in initial OTT reviews, which will no doubt compare it ad nauseam to a Porsche 918, while going on about reliability and everyday usability. Yawn. And it will still be way too expensive for the average person to even consider buying anyway.

Still pretty damn ugly. Impressive spec for sure. Will it have an electric only mode? What range?

What's wrong with just 500 hp gas engine without the electric bits and battery plus a 6 spd manual?!?! Can the extra 70 or so HP generate by thre electric motor counteract the added weight and complexity? It sounds a lot like the concept behind the CR-Z... If the electric motor can make 250 HP that's a different story...shame on Honda...took them more than a decade to come up with things like this...disappointed....same can be said about the LFA but At least the LFA has an amazing v10...sad face

Love the design and technology and I'm sure it will smoke anything near its price while proving to be extremely livable.

However, to me it is too wide and too heavy to carry the NSX mantle.  A very low and wide car would be a pain to drive remotely near an urban area these days.

Cheers,
John M.

$150K car, interior ripped right out of a $20K Civic.

Looking at the specs, if this is indeed $150K it'll get plastered by the R8 and 540C, not to mention the GT-R.

I'll take your Z06 and also add the BMW i8 (~$140K), the 911 GT3 (~$140K) and the AMG GT-S.  :)

I agree. Either they should have made it super light by using aluminum and carbon fiber on top of a conventional high revving VTEC, OR go full EV with floor mounted 200+ mile battery pack. I suppose the latter wasn't a practical option when they began to sketch this NSX. I love the looks of a proper super car though.
