Great engine, but why are there seven shades of brown in here?

So the biggest gripe you have is the brown interior..  So it gets a 3/5.   The worst possible rating?

The interior designers at GM are colour-blind.

Between that and the chrome wheels, one gets the impression this has since been tweaked to appeal more towards the Florida set of customers.

"The brown is broken up by fake aluminum trim – which is gross – and then accentuated by fake wood with a thick lacquer effect which is not only gross, but also brown. So gross. I guess what I’m trying to say is: “Ew”. And don’t get me started on the chrome alloys either."

Don't hold back Jacob, really just say what's on you mind.  :stick:  :rofl2:

"...this is around $2,000 cheaper than an ATS, but the ATS is a fair bit smaller." I have nothing more to say on this subject...well except why bother for 2K more you get an ATS?

It's still a good looking car considering the gen's age.  The rear looks so much like a Civic, I thought it was.  That's not a bad thing, though.   But the chrome waterfall grill looks about the same as that on the 1953 Buicks.  Might be time for a change.

I agree on the fake brown wood on charcoal and aluminum paint.  Looks like someone in the design studio was color blind or saw in only black and white.  I've seen the strange combo in other makes as well though.  Real aluminum where the fake wood grain and aluminum reside would look soooo much better.

As for the interior, this colour "palette" is also available:

I love the Regal...it's overpriced, but depreciation is huge, so the used market (rare find) is where one should shop.

Digging around the Opel website, it looks like the Insignia (Regal) can be ordered with a touchpad for writing inputs for the Sat nav systems like the BMW iDrive and Audi MMI interfaces (requires automatic transmission and EPB). Guess that didn't make it over the pond.

Why all the comparison to the ATS for the gearbox?  The ATS is RWD based longitudinal mounted set-up vs. the Regal's FWD based transverse set-up.  They use different transmissions.  And while the 2.0T engines are related they are not identical either.

I've got a 2012 Buick Regal GS that I've had for a few months now and I love it. The seats in the GS can be tight if you're not fairly skinny [which I am thankfully], but they are some of the best bolstered seats I've experienced other than the BMW E90 sport seats with adjustable bolsters. Overall the car reminds me more of a BMW/Audi in terms of feel [it feels solid] than a typical GM. Definitely overpriced new though. I paid $21k for a 2012 loaded 6spd with 18k [wholesale price, but you get the idea].

I do not understand the love for dull, dreary, grim black interiors. They are hot in warm weather, make for poor resolution when photographed for magazine and web page displays, and show all dirt, especially in winter. In my opinion, they look like the most basic entry-level vehicle; rental lot queens. The brown interior above may be a bit 'over-produced' but it is light, bright and cheery.  Personally, I would never buy a black interior vehicle.  That's my opinion anyway.

I agree whole heartedly, I love cream interiors, this wasn't cream, it was eight shades if gross brown.

Apparently the Regal leads the pack as the most frequently traded in vehicle at only one-year old.

Complaints concern the seats and interior. Just as the author here mentions. Funny about that.

I like some colour too, but I would like some red or even white accents for a sporty look.  Beige is so, well, Beige.  And the dash and upper doors are usually black or grey, so beige??

The Regal is currently Consumer Report's pick for sports sedan.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

The Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory interior is a train wreck.

I agree that the exterior is aging well.  But then I maintain that this is nothing more than saying "I liked it then and duh, I still like it now".  It was and is a handsome sedan.  And now that they have finally (I believe) rid themselves of the various weaksauce motors previously whimpering under the hood, it's a pretty compelling entry.  Still cramped in the back seat for a car its size, though.  IMO.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.
