If there was a car that would make me go back domestic, this is it. Fack. Fell in love when I spotted one in Australia.

I can't see it coming in less than $40k. It will be in limited numbers so prepare to bend over....going to go to the local Ford dealer and put a deposit down tomorrow.

Golf R and now this.

Supposedly the new RS may also get AWD.

Subaru is likely cursing the day they decided to launch the STI in sedan form.

A Ford source has confirmed to Road & Track that the next-generation Focus RS is likely to come to North America in extremely limited numbers. Unlike its predecessor, it'll be AWD.

So does this mean the Cayman lust is over?  Or is the RS going to be your "winter beater"?  ;)

Love those 2-door shots.  There's probably no hope... but there was a 2-door in 2008-11.   Come to think of it, there always was a 2-door until the latest gen...

"extremely limited numbers"   :'( :'( :'(

Drove the manual Fiesta 1.0T today   Now imagine big enough to fit stuff, like Focus-size.  Then, add AWD for today's sh!t snowstorm.  Then maybe shove a few more equines under a beautiful bonnet.

Perfect.

Sorry, Subaru...then again, if this does in fact sell for >$40k, the WRX is still the winner.

I hope people reward Ford for selling the RS by actually purchasing it!  There was all sort of excitement when the Chevrolet SS was announced, but its sales numbers are embarrassing.

It's also stupid expensive. Why buy the Chevrolet SS (which looks pretty bland, IMHO) when you can have a Chrysler 300 or Dodge Charger?

...and why buy a Focus RS when you can get a Mustang 2.3T ;)?

This is the issue with bringing products over as niche.  There's no reason why these Focus variants can't all be higher-volume sellers, save for pricing, which is done solely for higher-positioning.

Any idea how many prospective Focus buyers just want a Focus with AWD?  Hint: take 80% of Impreza sales and that's how many folks would be opened up to the Focus with AWD.  I don't know any subaru owner that says "I bought this because I love the car."  I hear, "I love how this thing drives in the winter."

I'm not saying that the RS should necessarily be cheaper (though I would prefer it :P), but the massive draw for most consumers (i.e. higher sales) would be a Focus hatchback with AWD.  Bring that and you'll see massive influx to the Focus line, and once folks come in looking at the Focus AWD, they'll consider spending a few more grand to have a faster motor, etc.
