Test Drive: 2010 Acura TSX V6
« on: April 19, 2010, 04:05:57 am »

New for 2010, a 280-horsepower 3.5-litre V6 engine offers more "low end power" than the TSX's standard four-cylinder engine, reports Contributing Editor, Chris Chase.  But the TSX V6 isn't available with a manual transmission or all-wheel drive, he notes.

Nice trunk hinges and I bet the interior plastics are soft as well  ;D :rofl2:

I wonder if the car might not be both better and a little cheaper with a small turbo applied to a slightly smaller version of the 4 cylinder engine.  I mean small turbo as in  an Audi 1.8T, just to fill in the torque curve at low rpm.

In other words, the motor from the RDX, which needs this V6 anyways.  :P

So.  If the motors were swapped both cars would work better?  sounds like a fine plan I wonder how easy that would be.

I loved the 1st Generation TSx.

This thing with the V6 is a big fat fail. Its big advantage over the $200 more expensive TL is that its "more nimble" well for $1000 LESS you can get a 328 HP RWD sports sedan that's much more nimble in a G37 ! I just on't understand the positioing. Is the TSx a "sports sedan" if so why fdoes it have FWD no manual option? Is it sport luxury if so its makes no sense to pay the same forit as the TL.

I have to agree. I just don't understand who is their target market.

I also agree with the above posters and am perplexed at Acura's pricing of the V6 TSX when compared to the TL.  IMO, the V6 TSX needs to top out at around $37k-$38k instead of $42k for it to make any sense.  Oh well, at least the TSX looks a lot better than the TL!  :P

I also agree the pricing is a little to close. If I had to choose between the TSX-V6 tech and the TL-Tech, I'd have to pick the TL-Tech because the extra value in its Tech pkg (smart key, HDD nav, High res screen), which makes it easier to justify the slight price difference.
Please remember I sell these things for a living and I always tell people that but obviously they rather get the TSX because of the styling lol.

Oh well.

^^ That tells you people don't like ugliness, and Acura offended  some would be buyers with the TL, no?

It would have been soooooooo easy to put the RDX turbo four and SH-AWD into the TSX to make the TSX a legitimate A4 fighter...but no, Acura had to give us a TSX with a TL drivetrain and TL pricing so that people who couldn't park (or look at) a TL had another Acura to buy.   ::)

Two mechanically-different sedans that cost about the same and serve the same customers...sounds like the sort of model overlap that, over time, contributed to GM's financial troubles.

Nope, nope, nope. Added weight over the front wheels in a front-wheel-drive car, no manual and no AWD plus a too-complicated dash and ugly front grille is a massive fail. It is a shame because the size and ride is perfect, but the TSX has lost focus and purpose in a quest to become something it isn't.

Actually, if you factor in the $4500 cash rebate the TL is about $4000 dollars less than then the TSX V6.
And ONLY $1100 more than an Accord V6 EX-L.

Does Acura have any idea what they are doing?  ::)

If we get another Acura, it would be the MDX...it would replace the Odyssey. The rest of the lineup doesn't interest us at all.

Well I probably will scandalize a few folks here but one competitor for this car that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Fusion Sport. Its AWD system (regardless how primitive it might be) makes it even more appealing as there is no torque steer under hard acceleration. Both car have a button happy center stack (prettier in the TSX IMO)... The Ford 3.5L V6 is actually smooth and has indeed a sweet sound + you get the fabulous Sync system. With the current rebates, the Ford makes a lot more sense than the pricey TSX...

And if one is a big Honda fan, the TL makes a whole lot more sense as many already posted...

Maybe they're trying to fall so low that they start picking up "devil's advocate" fanboys?

It's certainly worth a mention.  Also worth mentioning the Maxima and the Buick Regal Turbo, and maybe the Passat VR6.  I'm having trouble believing that there will be many people who will say that "for this price, this is the nicest car on the market."

Scandalize?  If it's a better product, it's a better product.  I would choose the AWD Sport over this any day of the week, regardless of the price.
