Hercules Tires
« on: April 26, 2006, 02:20:39 pm »
Hi there guys, I'm new here. I'm from Toronto and I have just bought 4 brand new Hercules Tires.

(215/40ZR17) G5000Z

They are going on a silver two door sports car, 2003 Honda Civic Si with 17 inch gun metal custom rims with a chrome lip.

What is the MAX tire pressure per tire ?

I was wondering how much air pressure should I put in one tire ?

I want a very smooth, comfortable, great handling feel and a no bump feeling while driving my car.

Who else here has Hercules Tires ?

How do you like them ?

Thank you

Maximum weight?  Looking to run a landscaping business out of your Civic?

I think you mean tire pressure, but I'm not sure.  The maximum pressure should be on the tire itself.  The recommended pressure should be on the driver's door frame.  Not sure if a non-OEM size renders that spec meaningless.

On my Hercules Tires (215/40ZR17) G5000Z, does the 40 mean the max air pressure for the tire ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

No.  40 is the aspect ratio.  215mm wide, and 215 x 40% = 86mm sidewall height.

Somewhere, in small lettering, should be "Max. air pressure = __ psi"

Doesn't really matter, as you probably don't want to run max. pressure anyway.

Once again, start with the number on the door frame.  My 99 EL says 32 psi.  Last week, I checked and adjusted all tires to 33 psi.  I'm a rebel, but I'm also running original-sized tires.

You have low-profile tires.  Look what a Google search of "low profile tire pressure" gets you!

Some tire dealers are telling me that between 32 and 35 is perfect for my 2003 Honda Civic Si. The MAX on the tire says, 50 PSI. But I'm think 35 might be pushing it a little, what do you guys think ? Anything after that is a very bumpy ride the tire dealers said. These (17 inch rims/tires) are not my stock tires and rims. My stocks were 15 inch alloy wheels with 15 inch tires (Firestone). When I put 32 in my new Hercules Tires they feel about low when i touch them and when I drive.

What should I do ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Holy crap.  Put air in the tires.  Start with 35.  To harsh?  Well, you put 40-series tires on a Civic, so don't expect a limousine ride, but you can always let air out easier than putting it back in, so bring it down a couple psi and try again.

I sincerely doubt you'd notice the difference between 32 and 35 psi.

I guess I will put 35 PSI in each of my Hercules Tires and see how it feels and goes on the road.

we have helped you.....put the recommended pressure for your car in them then test them...try a few variations 3 to 4 pounds either side of recommended (NOT MAXUIUM PRESSURE THE TYRE CAN HOLD..that's the one embossed into the rubber on the tyre) and test these variations ...stick with the one that best suits your requirements...higher pressures than normal for FAST aggresive driving..thought this will give a rough choppy bumpy ride...Normal pressure for a good all round compromise and LOW for squishy comfy and wet snow driving(least recommended..lots of tyre wear) now a nice thank you is in order..........

I do thank you of course for your help and everything.

On the inside of the door frame of my car it says 30 PSI but thats with the stock tires and rims I had before (185/65R15).

I'm thinking 35 since 50 is the MAX on the tire (Hercules 215/40ZR17 G5000Z)

What do you think I should put in a tire ?

Thank you

LMAO.  And I thought I was neurotic.  You're gonna cure me by the end of this thread.

Start with 35.

Ask again, and I'm sending in the Girl Guides.

Saf, I understood every word.  You're off your meds again.

My book says that a 2003 Honda Civic Si came with 195/60R15 88V's inflated to 33 front 30 rear.  The placard should be checked to make sure this is correct, because the next bit of info is dependent on this.

This means the maximum load carrying capacity for the tires is 1184 # and  1146#.

215/40R17's ought to have a load index of 83 if it's standard load (which it doesn't sound like it is based on the inflation pressure writen on the sidewall) or 87 if the tire is an Extra Load (XL)  Assuming it is an XL, the tire has less load capacity than the original tires - which is not a good thing!  But this also means that MORE inflation pressure is needed than the original tires to obtain the same load carrying capacity.

Doing the calculation, the same load capacity is achieved using 42 psi front and 41 psi rear.  But the pressure split needs to be maintained, so 44 / 41 would achieve this without sacrificing load capacity.

Rule of thumb!  If you don't use the original tire size, you need to recalculate the tire pressure to obtain the same load carrying capacity.

Hope this helps.
